Statement of Faith
- We believe the Bible to be the infallible, inerrant, inspired, authoritative Word of God and that it is the sufficient basis for the Christian’s faith & practise. Psalm 19:7; 1 Thess.2:13; 2 Peter 1:20,21
- We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His vicarious and atoning death through the shedding of His blood on Calvary’s cross, His bodily resurrection on the third day, His ascension to the Father where He sits at His right hand & His literal, physical return to earth at a future date.
- We believe that all mankind is spiritually fallen, has sinned and by consequence is separated from God, & that as sinners by nature and practise all mankind are incapable of any spiritual good that would earn them favour in the sight of God. Romans 3:23
- We believe that salvation is by grace alone through confession and repentance of sin & faith in the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ at Calvary.
- We believe that if one rejects the sin atoning sacrifice of Christ upon the Cross, then he subjects himself to eternal loss and separation from God & shall spend eternity in a literal Hell. Revelation 21:8
Who We Are
The Irish Christian Home Educators Association was established in 2010 to represent the rights of Home educators in Ireland & also to provide a platform for Christian Home Educators in Ireland to develop contact, in addition to providing ongoing support.
A small number of people have home schooled their children over the years. In the past it was not possible to quantify the exact number as there was no official register. The state took issue with a few on the grounds of truancy & in nearly all cases the state took the view that if you weren’t at school then it was truancy.
Following one or two publicised cases, the State decided to regularise the whole issue of school attendance.
After a long process, the Education (Welfare) Act 2000 was passed into law in July 2002 & the Act provides for the establishment of the National Educational Welfare Board (NEWB) which has the responsibility to ensure that each child aged six and upwards attends a recognised school or otherwise receives a certain minimum education.
Home schooling is now officially recognised by the new legislation & the Parents constitutional right as the primary & natural educator of the child is acknowledged.
The number of Home educators in Ireland is miniscule. Official estimates place the number at approximately seven hundred and fifty. However, the National Educational Welfare Board acknowledge’s that it will be some years before the exact number can be established.
The number of Christian home educators is even less. However, it is growing. And as an Association it is our desire to foster this fledgling movement for the glory of God.
